Plex, Inc.Cyber Attack100508/2022PLE2140261022Link
Rankiteo Explanation :
Attack threatening the organization's existence

Description: Plex, a streaming media platform, has experienced data breach. The intruder had accessed a limited subset of data that includes emails, usernames, and encrypted passwords. User account passwords are hashed and scrambled in a way that makes them unreadable to humans. It is done by using the stronger bcrypt algorithm and protected by cryptographic concepts known as salting and peppering which makes it difficult to unscramble stolen passwords. Credit card and payment data is not stored on its servers. Plex has more than 30 million registered users. Both personal media and streaming customers are affected by the breach. They did not say how many users are affected by the breach, only that โ€œthe majority of accountsโ€ are affected. Plex is asking all users to reset their own passwords.

Plex, Inc.Ransomware100507/2015PLE113525422Link
Rankiteo Explanation :
Attack threatening the organization's existence

Description: A server hosting the forums of Plex, the popular digital media streaming service was hit by a ransomware attack in July 2015. The attack compromised personal information including customer data, software, files, email addresses, encrypted passwords, and other data. The firm declined to pay the ransom to the hackers to delete the stolen information from them and restored its systems from backup.
