De KNB ondersteunt (kandidaat-)notarissen in hun dagelijkse beroepsuitoefening. Dit doet zij door vragen van haar leden over personen- en familierecht, onroerendgoedrecht, ondernemingsrecht of de praktijkvoering te beantwoorden. Tot slot bemiddelt de KNB bij conflicten tussen cliënt en notaris. De KNB communiceert met publiek en bedrijfsleven, politiek, stakeholders en media over haar beleid en opvattingen en over ontwikkelingen in het notariaat. Dit doet zij onder andere door middel van lobby, het vakblad Notariaat Magazine en de website www.knb.nl. Daarnaast ziet de beroepsorganisatie het als haar taak de consument te informeren over de diensten van de notaris en het belang om de notaris in te schakelen.
